Three Day Closure of Route 501 (Lititz Pike)
Route 501 (Lititz Pike) will be closed in the area of the Lancaster Airport from 7:00 p.m. Friday April 4, 2008, until 6:00 a.m. Monday April 7, 2008. During the weekend, crews will be trenching through Lititz Pike to install pipes. This activity is part of improvements being made to the Lancaster Airport. The pipes are necessary to carry storm water runoff from the airport to the water detention basin that was recently installed on the west side of the highway.
The highway will be closed to all traffic between Airport Road and Millport Road. There are two detour routes that have been established. One goes around the airport to the east, utilizing Airport Rd, East Oregon Rd, Kissel Hill Rd, and Millport Rd. The other goes to the west, using Airport Rd, Koser Rd, Buckwalter Rd, and Millport Rd.
This highway carries a heavy volume of traffic. Motorists are asked to be patient during the closure period as delays and backups are expected.
The Manheim Township Police Department will have patrol officers in the area to monitor the flow of traffic and assist where needed.
This release will be repeated later this week.
