The Manheim Township Commissioners presented the 1999 Manheim Township Community Development Awards during their January 10 meeting.

This annual event salutes development projects that, because of design and consideration to the needs and interest of the Township, have developed land in a resourceful fashion while also improving the quality of the living environment.

Each year the Township solicits entries from developers, property owners, design professionals and citizens.  Projects entered for consideration are evaluated based on:

Ø     Any unique innovations or solutions to problems encountered in the projects development

Ø     How the project relates to, or contributes to, the community, how the project demonstrates resourceful utilization of land

Ø     Whether the project involved a public/private partnership.

There are eight categories in which awards may be granted.  However, based on type, number or quality of the development projects submitted, there may not be an award given in each category each year.

This year the Commissioners presented awards to three projects.  The three winners chosen this year were in the Commercial Retail, Rehabilitation and Special Award categories.

Commercial/Retail Category -

Cloister Car Wash & Lube

Location - 1417 Manheim Pike.

·        Primary Landscape Architect - Christian & Gabriel, Inc.

·        Primary Planner - Pelger Engineering & Construction

Rehabilitation Category -

Samaritan Counseling Center

Location - 1803 Oregon Pike.

·        Owner/Developer - Samaritan Counseling Center

·        Contractor - T-A-H Construction, Inc.

·        Developer/Primary Architect - Reese, Lower, Patrick and Scott, Ltd.

Special Award Category -

Perelman Park

Location - Binkley's Mill Road

·        Developer/Owner - Manheim Township Commissioners

·        Primary Engineer - Hyder Consulting, Inc.

·        Primary Planner - Ecosystems Recovery Institute, Inc.
