Crime Alert – Posted April 2, 2008

In the last several days, the residents of the Neffsville and Blossom Hill areas of Manheim Township have been experiencing thefts from vehicles during the overnight hours. Thieves have been targeting electronics as well as small items commonly found in vehicles. In some cases, windows have been smashed to gain access to items that were visible from the outside.

Please take an extra minute to lock your vehicles and remove your valuables. Thieves are looking for “easy” targets, such as vehicles with GPS units attached to the windshields or vehicles with purses on the seat. Because thieves know that some people put their GPS or Satellite Radio units in the glove box or under the seat, we also suggest that you remove all suction cup mounts from your windows and wipe off the mark left behind.

Above all, LOCK YOUR VEHICLES and park in a well lit area.

You are the eyes and ears of the police department. Report suspicious activity as it is occurring by calling 911.

Crime Alert

Posted December 17, 2007

The Manheim Township and East Petersburg area continues to experience thefts from vehicles as well as residential burglaries. Your help is needed to stop these crimes and identify the person or persons responsible.

Thefts from vehicles have been occurring during the overnight hours in residential areas. In most of these cases, the victim has reported that their vehicles had been left unlocked. Some of the vehicles have even been parked in driveways. The perpetrators are seeking anything of value – even loose change.

Residential burglaries have been occurring after dark while the homes were occupied. The persons responsible for these incidents will prowl through backyards looking for unlocked doors. Once they gain access to the house, they look for wallets and pocketbooks that are easily found in kitchen and dining room areas. One suspect was described as a black male, late teens to early twenties, 200 pounds, with a light beard.

Both the thefts from vehicles and the residential burglaries could be prevented by simply locking doors. We all believe that it won’t happen to us, and we would like to think that we could leave our doors unlocked all of the time, but unfortunately, this is not the case. Please review the following crime prevention tips to protect yourself against these latest incidents of criminal activity in our community:

  • LOCK YOUR VEHICLES! Make this a habit wherever you park your car.
  • LOCK YOUR DOORS, EVEN WHILE HOME! Don’t make it easy for the criminals to get inside.
  • Keep all valuables out of sight of prying eyes.
  • Keep outside lights on throughout the night. Exterior lights are a deterrent.
  • Park your vehicle in a lit area.
  • Get to know your neighbors. Neighbors who know each other can better identify suspicious activity.
  • Report anything suspicious to the police as it is happening so that it can be checked out. Do not delay!

Crime Alert November 8, 2007

 Date Posted: November 8, 2007

We have recently experienced valuables being stolen from vehicles parked in residential areas. Purses, Ipods, stereos, and cell phones are the main targets. The best deterrent is to park in a well-lit area, lock your car, and keep your valuables hidden from view. Where possible, remove your valuables completely from the car. Contact the police immediately if you observe any suspicious activity!
