2011 Recreation, Park, Greenways and Open Space Plan
path image_thumb.JPG
At its meeting on December 12, 2011, the Manheim Township Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution 2011-42 and the Township's Recreation, Park, Greenway and Open Space Plan.  This policy document outlines a framework for park and recreation planning and decision making in the Township for the next 20 years and describes the policies and guidelines for creating a vibrant recreation program and system of public parks and spaces in Manheim Township.

What is a recreation plan?

Recreation resource planning is a process that applies analytical tools to systematically define and establish goals and objectives for the future planning and management of recreation resources and opportunities in the Township.  Like other forms of planning (transportation, land use, etc.), recreation planning is a rational, objective, systematic decision-making process with the results of the effort describing a desired future that is written and presented in a planning document and through tables, maps and illustrations.

Together with the assistance of the Planning Committee that represented various groups and organizations of the Township, and its recreational planning consultant, the Township's Park and Recreation Board reviewed and endorsed the plan's recommendations and guidelines for the future as described in the plan document.  The Board of Commissioners took formal action to the plan as a fundamental policy and set of tools that will set the course and influence actions and decisions for the future of recreation, parks, greenways and open space in Manheim Township.
