Manheim Township, the only First Class Township in Lancaster County, occupies
23.4 square miles and is located in the center of Lancaster County bordering the
City of Lancaster to the north. The developed areas of the Township are
predominantly residential, with industrial and commercial activity prevalent
near the City of Lancaster, and agriculture dominating the northern section of
the Township. The Township is completely zoned and most of its developed areas
are provided with municipal water and sewer services. The estimated population
in 1999 is 33,000.

Police Department
Police officers are required to take a civil service test. For information about when the test will be given, contact the Police Department, and they will put you on a list for notification for the civil service test. Recreation Department
The Recreation Department hires over 200 part-time employees during the summer. Contact the Recreation Department at Stauffer Mansion, 1241 Litiz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. For more information, call (717) 290-7180, extension 100.
Public Works/Parks Department
The Public Works/Parks Department, during the summer, also hires part-time people for roadwork, park and pool maintenance. The department can be reached at the Township office, 1840 Municipal Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm daily, or by email to the Public Works Department.
Volunteering
Plans are underway for Manheim Township’s 18th Annual COMMUNITY DAY , which is scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Overlook Community Campus (2099 Fruitville Pike). Opportunities exist for community groups to participate in the day’s activities. The Community Day committee is looking for:
- entertainment,
- food vendors,
- event sponsors,
