Exterior improvements to an existing structure may require a building permit.
Building Permit Required
- The following exterior work would require you to obtain a building permit.
- Structural alterations including, but not limited to creating or enlarging openings in bearing walls
- Replacement or addition of structural columns on porch roofs or screen rooms
- Replacement or repair of exterior structural members of elevated decks (more than 30" above grade)
- Replacement and/or repair of exterior finish systems such as stucco, EIFS, thin stone veneer or similar exterior finish systems
- Addition of over-framed dormers on existing roofs
- Submit the following in person or via first class mail for review and approval:

No Building Permit Required
- The following exterior work would not require you to obtain a building permit.
- Cosmetic work including replacement of windows (like for like with no increase in structural opening)
- Re-roofing
- New siding (except as noted above for other finish types)
- Replacement of exterior doors (like for like with no increase in structural opening)
- Exterior trim installation or replacement
