Operation Safe Stop is a proactive approach to educate the motoring public that passing a stopped school bus, when children are loading or unloading, is both dangerous and illegal. Law enforcement agencies, school transportation providers, pupil transportation associations, and PennDOT have combined their efforts to raise public awareness about the potential consequences and reduce the occurrence of illegal school bus passes.
The Manheim Township Police Department and the Manheim Township School District have identified a list of trouble spots - routes or stops with a high frequency of violations. Using this information, officers from the police department will be watching these routes or stops to issue citations for any observed violations. Additionally, officers will be assigned to ride the buses along with the children, and officers will also be following the buses in a marked police car. Operation Safe Stop is conducted with a zero tolerance policy - any and all observed violations will result in a charge being issued or filed.
As always, please drive safely when out on our roadways.
