[ARCHIVED] Manheim Township Takes Action Regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

March 13, 2020) The Manheim Township Board of Commissioners has taken precautionary measures in response to the ever-changing Coronavirus (COVED-19) pandemic. First it should be noted that there are NO known cases within Manheim Township or Lancaster County at this time. The actions being taken are precautionary in nature, as our top priority is the health and safety of our residents and employees.

The following Manheim Township facilities and programs are affected by the precautionary measures:

  • Manheim Township Public Library – Will be closed starting on Monday, March 16th, 2020 and will remain closed until at least Wednesday April 1st, 2020. This closure includes the cancellation or postponement of all programs and activities within the time frame indicated.

  • Manheim Township Recreation and Park Planning Department – All facilities will be closed starting on Monday, March 16th, 2020 and will remain closed until at least Wednesday April 1st, 2020. This closure includes the cancellation or postponement of all programs and activities within the time frame indicated. This also includes the preschool program at The Boettcher House.

Other Township Services and Events:

We will be using recommendations from the county, state and federal officials and health experts to guide us in our decisions regarding changes to other Township services and events.  This may involve limiting attendance, cancelling scheduled programs or meetings, closing certain facilities and potentially suspending non-essential services.  Other changes may be made in the coming days and we will keep you posted.  Please do not hesitate to contact the Township directly if you have a question or concern about a specific event, service or department.

Facility Cleaning and Precautions:

We are continuing to follow best hygiene practices for all our facilities.  In addition to regularly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and equipment in our buildings, we are providing our staff with sanitizing sprays and wipes and encouraging them to disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces and to wash their hands often with soap and water.  We also are encouraging our staff and residents that any business that can be transacted with the Township through telephone and electronic communications is recommended, in order to exercise “social distancing” and in keeping with best practices to reduce possible exposure.

Continued Efforts:

Our Township Emergency Management staff along with other Township staff and elected officials will continue to monitor the recommendations from the county, state and federal officials and health experts as this situation changes.  We will also continue to communicate with you, the community, of any impacts to the Township and its services as a result of the Coronavirus.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this unprecedented and dynamic situation.
