Manheim Township Public Library has unveiled the inaugural StoryWalk® on their Children’s Discovery Patio outside the children’s area of the Library.
StoryWalk® is a brand new outdoor immersive experience that merges the joy and discovery of reading with nature. Children and families are treated to an innovative and delightful way for young and old to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Pages from a children’s book are installed along an outdoor path and each new page is only a few steps away as the adventure and story twist and wind on the trail.
“We are delighted to offer families a new way to experience reading at the Library,“ said Manheim Township Public Library Executive Director, Joyce Sands.
The experience combines exercise and reading to promote a healthy lifestyle and literacy in children and adults. Each pod and page greets guests with vibrant illustrations that pose questions and directions for fun interactions and family bonding. StoryWalk® is a free activity open during park hours.
The current book on display is “Chicken Story Time,” by local author, Sandy Asher. It tells a tale of a chicken that visits the library for story time and because of the wildly popular experience for the kids, it grows and grows until the library is filled with children and chickens!
Guests can scan the QR code at the end of the StoryWalk® to take a short survey and the first 50 families to complete the survey will receive a free signed copy of the book.
The story will be changed monthly, so fans of the experience are encouraged and welcome to return each month to discover and enjoy a new literary adventure.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
