FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the dates and hours for the sale?
Set-up: Monday, September 13th
Sale Dates:
Tuesday, September 14th from 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Wednesday, September 15th from 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Thursday, September 16th from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1/2 PRICE DAY)
Tear down: Thursday, September 16th from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM
What do I need to do for the various volunteer positions on the sign-up sheet?
Cashier - Similar to years past, cashiers will be responsible for "checking out" our guests by tabulating their totals, handling cash/checks and (if needed) helping to bag the books. Tabulating totals is easier than ever this year because no books or media items will be individually priced. Cashiers have the option of sitting for their entire shift.
Workers on Floor - Workers on the Floor help to keep the sale looking tidy and organized! Their main priority is stocking any overflow books from under the tables and making the books and media items easy to shop. Although you are welcome to take breaks, this job is predominantly on your feet. This is a perfect job for families to do together!
Set-up/Tear Down - If you sign up for either Set-up or Tear Down, you do not need to lift boxes or move tables. For set-up you will be asked to unpack boxes of books, straighten or stock tables and possibly help with signage. For Tear Down, you will be asked to repack boxes of books and media items. These are more jobs that are perfect for families to do together!
How old do you have to be to volunteer?
Any youth volunteering on their own should be 14 or older. Younger children may volunteer with a parent or guardian and do not need to sign up for their own shift.
What is the situation with the current COVID concerns?
All municipal government buildings that are a part of Manheim Township must follow the rules and protocols put in place by the Board of Commissioners. This is their current policy:
The Township of Manheim will follow the Pennsylvania Department of Public Health’s statewide order and will not require the use of face masks for all residents when entering Manheim Township facilities. If you or a member of your household is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please do not enter Manheim Township facilities and buildings, and consult with your physician.
You are welcome to do what makes you comfortable, if that includes wearing a mask (please bring your own) or wearing gloves (we will have some available). Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the Overlook Activities Center. As with all things right now, the policy may be updated prior to the sale and you will be contacted with that information. Should your situation or comfort level change, Sign Up Genius makes it very easy to change or cancel your volunteer commitments. Or, you are welcome to respond to this email and I will change your sign up for you.
How can I stay up-to-date with any changes to the COVID policy or Book Sale protocols?
I will email everyone that signed up as a volunteer as soon as a policy or protocol changes. As mentioned above, you are absolutely welcome to change or cancel your scheduled shifts as things change. Book Sale specific directives and protocols will be updated regularly on the MTPL webpage: https://mtpl.info/friends-book-sales-activities/
