[ARCHIVED] Proposed Ordinance 2022-17 Text Amendment/Domestic Animals

LEGAL NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Commissioners of Manheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania will conduct a public hearing at a regular meeting to be held on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the Manheim Township Municipal Building, 1840 Municipal Drive, Lancaster, Pennsylvania to consider the adoption of a text amendment to the Zoning Ordinance of Manheim Township. At the conclusion of the public hearing or at a subsequent public meeting held within 60 days of the date of the second publication of this advertisement, the Board shall consider enacting and, if appropriate, will take a vote on adopting and enacting proposed Ordinance 2022-17, the caption of which is as follows: AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MANHEIM, LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, TO AMEND THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF MANHEIM TOWNSHIP - 2014, AS AMENDED, TO REVISE ARTICLE V, SECTION 503 (DEFINITIONS) AND ARTICLE XXI, SECTION 2101 (ANIMALS AND ANIMAL SHELTERS). A brief summary of the proposed ordinance is set forth below. SECTION 1 replaces the definition of “Domestic Animals” found in Section 503 with a new definition for “Domestic Pets”. SECTION 2 replaces the term “domestic animals” with the term “domestic pets” in Subsection, 2101.1. SECTION 3 deletes the criteria for maintaining pigeons and chickens as an accessory use on a single family detached dwelling lot found in Subsection 2101.2 and replaces it with a new set of updated criteria. SECTION 4 amends Section 2101 governing animals and animal shelters by adding a new Subsection 5 that prohibits keeping domestic pets for breeding purposes. The proposed ordinance includes a repealer and severability provision as well as an effective date provision. A copy of the proposed ordinance may be examined or copied in the office of the Township Secretary at 1840 Municipal Drive, Lancaster, Pennsylvania on regular business days between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. A copy of the Ordinance also may be examined without charge at the offices of this newspaper (LNP) and at the Lancaster County Law Library located at 50 N. Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602. This meeting will be held in-person and virtually.
