The Lancaster City Water Bureau has started the yearly water main pipe flushing program. Information about the program is provided here with a link to the City website for more information.
The program will involve flushing water main pipes from 3/31-5/24; between 10:00 PM-6:00 AM. The purpose of the program is to remove sediment by opening hydrants and letting the water run until clear. By doing so, the City is can maintain maximum water quality to its customers. However, flushing may temporarily cause customers to observe a slight cloudiness in the water and a reduction in water pressure, but this occurrence should be temporary.
If customers experience cloudy water after flushing activities, they may report the occurrence by calling the Water Quality Laboratory at 717-291-4818 from 7 AM-4:15 PM Monday-Friday. All other times call the water emergency number, 717-291-4816.
