Where To Take Other Waste and Recyclables

Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority accepts a large variety of items for recycling as you can see from the information below. If you have items not listed, please visit the nonprofit recycling database website Earth911.com or call 1-800-253-2687 (1-800-CLEANUP). At Earth911.com, you can enter your item and zip code to find the closest recycling drop off location.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers some leftover household products that can catch fire, react or explode under certain circumstances or that are corrosive or toxic as household hazardous waste. These items require special care when you dispose of them. Below is a list of HHW items residents can take to Lancaster Solid Waste Management Authority for free disposal. These items should not be placed in your trash.
  • Batteries (Household and automotive) NOT Electrical Vehicle Batteries
  • Automotive Fluids (No larger than 5-gallon container)
  • Adhesives
  • Paint, stains, turpentine, thinners, rust inhibitors
  • Fuel
  • Household chemicals and cleaners
  • Lawn treatments (Including herbicides and pesticides)
  • Items containing mercury (Thermometers, fluorescent bulbs, ballasts)  
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Floor and furniture polish
  • Iodine
  • Chemistry sets

Electronic Waste (e-waste)

A subset of used electronics that are nearing the end of their useful life that are discarded, donated, or given to a recycler. Below is a list of items residents can take to Lancaster Solid Waste Management Authority for free disposal. (Limit of 10 items per resident, per day)

Other Recyclable Materials

Residents can drop off the following materials not collected in trash hauler recycling bins at the Recycling Drop-Off Center located at 850 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603. Less trash in our landfills is a win for everyone!

  • Mixed office paper (Dividers, file folders, index cards, envelopes)
  • Newspaper (Including ads/inserts)
  • Magazines (Including catalogs, brochures, pamphlets, phone menus)
  • Chipboard (cereal boxes, egg cartons, toilet paper and paper towel roles)
  • Soft cover and hard cover books
  • Shredded paper
