Employment Information

As a First Class Township in Pennsylvania, all police officer candidates are required to first take a civil service test for placement on an eligibility list. An eligibility list is good for one year after the test is given. Whether or not the department is hiring depends on our needs. When an opening exists, the top three candidates from the eligibility list are considered for each police officer vacancy. The selection process includes a background investigation, polygraph examinations, and interviews by a selection board. Drug, physical, and psychological tests are also required before appointment.

The Manheim Township Police Department establishes an eligibility list through participation in the Lancaster County Chiefs of Police Consortium Hiring Test, which is given once a year. Testing dates and the link to apply can be found at Lancaster County Chiefs of Police. Previous law enforcement training or experience is not required.

Civilian positions, both full and part-time, are filled as needed. Openings and an application for civilian employment can be found at Job Postings. Unsuccessful candidates are welcome to reapply.

Manheim Township is an equal opportunity employer.
